USDOT (Department of Transportation) physicals
A DOT physical examination is required to determine if an employee is fit to operate a commercial motor vehicle. The exam must be administered by a licensed medical examiner certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). At WorkPartners Occupational Health, several of our providers are certified DOT medical examiners.
The DOT physical consists of vision and hearing tests, blood pressure check, urinalysis (drug screen and to check for diabetes), and a comprehensive physical exam that covers the eyes, ears, mouth, throat, heart, lungs, abdomen, vascular system, genito-urinary system (to check for hernias), musculoskeletal system (including the spine), and neurological system (nerves). In order to maintain a commercial driver’s license (CDL), employees must undergo a DOT physical every two years.
FCE (Functional Capacity Evaluation) physicals
Our highly trained physical therapist and athletic trainer use a variety of specialized equipment to aid in both pre-employment physicals and post-offer employment testing and fitness evaluations. This includes functional testing equipment to measure an individual's ability to perform actual or simulated job tasks.
FCEs evaluate a candidate’s physical strength, range of motion, flexibility, stamina, ability to lift and carry objects, and other abilities required for the job. Our FCE physicals offer the most reliable, objective, legally compliant physical abilities testing for screening job candidates.
As a client at WorkPartners, we offer fully customizable FCEs based on your actual job duties and equipment. This includes an on-site visit, at your facility, with our athletic trainer. They will accurately mimic the activities and equipment utilized, then replicate for testing in a controlled medical environment. This is available at no extra cost.
When you conduct pre-employment testing, not only are you more likely to hire candidates who have the strength and fitness required to perform the job, but you will also:
- Reduce turnover by hiring the most capable employees
- Increase safety in the workforce through decreased accidents and injuries
- Decrease missed workdays from work-related injuries
- Lower workers’ compensation claims costs
- Decrease your experience modification (e-mod) rate for insurance premiums
Post-offer testing may also include a medical exam. At WorkPartners Occupational Health, one of our providers will check the individual’s overall health, review medical health history and job information, and look for possible symptoms of illness or chronic conditions that may prevent the individual from performing the duties of his or her job.
Numerous additional services are available a la carte with pre-employment physical examinations / functional capacity evaluations. They can generally be scheduled in a single visit. These include:
- Drug and alcohol screenings (urine, breath, and hair collection)
- Vision testing
- Audiometry testing
- Respirator fit
- OSHA respirator medical clearance examination
- Pulmonary function testing
- TB testing (PPD skin test and T-spot blood test)
- Labs / immunizations
- EKG
- X-rays (conducted off-site)
